As we move into a new year, we take a look at three air compressor trends that have cropped up time and time again in 2017, and seem likely to shape the sector throughout much of 2018 and beyond.
Energy-Efficient Air Compressors
Energy efficiency is one of the watchwords of the 21st century so far, and as air compressor technology continues to advance, there are ever-increasing strides in energy-efficient air compressors, compressor controls and retrofits for existing systems.
Smaller, portable air compressors are finding favour for isolated tasks, but it’s also important to make sure that your air compressor fixtures and fittings are fit for purpose too.
If your air compressor appears to be running below its stated efficiency or output volume, check your air pipes for any leaks, and replace them if needed – escaping air pressure from leaky pipes is the enemy of efficient operation.
Centrifugal Air Compressors
Centrifugal air compressors are usually very large, although there are smaller centrifugal air compressors available too.
They are often found in heavy industries such as oil and gas development, and this connection with some of the largest sectors means they are likely to feature in the main air compressor industry trends for 2018.
Despite their size, large centrifugal air compressors often perform relatively well in terms of energy efficiency – allowing them to tap into the trend already mentioned above.
Back at the start of 2017, Grand View Research predicted that oil-free centrifugal compressors would see particular growth, thanks to their low carbon footprint, high efficiency and general eco credentials.
With oil-free compressors still in significant demand – as we’ll see below – this gives one more reason as to why centrifugal is gaining ground, although piston and rotary screw compressors are still out in front as the most common compressor technologies in current demand.
Oil-Free Air Compressors
Oil-free air compressors have benefits in industries that need very clean compressed air output, whether this is a case of human health and hygiene, or to avoid contaminating sensitive products.
This makes them well suited to some of the most essential industries of the present day, including human healthcare, electronics, and food and beverage production.
Recent years have seen oil-free air compressors ship in ever-increasing numbers, so this is another trend that is likely to continue well into 2018.
